Helsinki’s Urban Policy “Functional City” – October 7

Thank you very much to everyone who joined the recent LADEC seminar on the initiatives of the City of Lahti, Finland. We were impressed by the city’s efforts to remediate its former heavy industrial areas, to leverage the strengths of a regional city, and to build mechanisms for active citizen participation.

On Thursday, October 7, 2025, we welcome speakers from Helsinki Partners and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland.
Unlike conventional “functional cities” that focus solely on rationality and efficiency, Helsinki’s urban policy “Functional City” incorporates the principles of the circular economy and strives to enhance quality of life for its citizens. We will explore the hidden strengths behind what is often called the “happiest country in the world.”
The seminar will also be streamed online—please join us!
