Urban Development
Creating Sustainable Cities: Research on Advanced European Practices and Support for Collaborative Projects
2021.5~ Ongoing
Project / Business Management
Urban planning in the OMY area, a CBD district, is aimed at promoting sustainable business and the realization of a “regenerative” society, a concept that goes beyond that. We interviewed over 70 key persons to find out what kind of city they would like to create in the future, as well as examples from around the world that can serve as references.
WHY
In order to promote urban planning that will lead the trend of sustainable shift in Japan’s urban centers, it was necessary to deeply understand the history of the city in question as well as advanced European examples.
FOCUS
We drew future scenarios from historical research on the surrounding area, and planned and proposed a concept for community development. We also conducted research on Dutch and European facilities and organizations to provide an overview of their facilities and to serve as a reference during vision-making.
PROCESS
・Historical research & future insights of the city
・Research on incubation facilities around the world
・Interviews with over 70 key persons
・Concept Proposal
・Workshops to organize complex issues and set goals
・Project management
OUTCOME
We produced a booklet summarizing our research and interviews with each facility and key persons. The project was later developed into a collaborative project, and we are in charge of coordinating a collaborative project between Dutch urban development experts and Japanese companies. What is a sustainable city? We also conducted a workshop using SiD to define the direction of the project. This project is still ongoing as of 2024, and we are currently coordinating with architectural design firms and sustainable consulting firms in Europe that are implementing experimental projects on the world stage.
