As part of the “GX Creation Meeting”—an initiative by MLIT to promote cross-disciplinary collaboration and human resource development in environment and urban planning—we co-hosted and executed an online seminar series featuring administrative officials and experts from leading European cities.
WHY
In the field of environment and urban planning, Europe offers many advanced examples, including the creation of comprehensive ecosystems. Previously, domestic analysis of these cases relied mostly on external perspectives, such as short-term visits by Japanese observers or online resources. However, when complex social and structural factors are involved, external research often struggles to uncover the true essence of these projects. Therefore, we created an opportunity to hear directly from the local professionals executing these initiatives on the ground.
FOCUS
Since this was a continuous seminar series, instead of focusing on a single theme or country, we structured it to introduce diverse cases and perspectives by inviting speakers who are most knowledgeable about each specific topic. Furthermore, we ensured a dedicated Q&A session during each seminar so participants could directly question the local officials, focusing on revealing the real, practical challenges and insights beyond just the surface level.

We hosted the events under the following themes, and each session attracted a large number of participants.
